Radiant Orchid Nail Polish - ORLY Preamp

Pardon the brevity of this nail polish post today! I'm still in Massachusetts soaking in the gloriousness of my family, and since my trips home are only happening about twice a year now, I'm #NotTryna spend the whole visit on the computer trying to be witty for YOU folks. Well I mean... I will still try to be witty for you, just not in a super verbose manner.  AND YET HERE I AM RATTLING ON. #BitchesBeTALKIN, am I right?!

Alright so straight to the point (in a curved line, apparently). Today I have another Radiant Orchid-inspired nail polish swatch for you, to celebrate Pantone's 2014 Color of the Year. This is one of my favs! It's ORLY's Preamp, and I had to search high and low for this polish in order to scoop it up last year. It was totally worth the treasure hunt. Check out how gorgeous this polish is:

Preamp is a beautiful purple-ish pink with gold micro shimmer throughout:

ORLY Preamp is a gorgeous pink-purple with golden shimmer!

I have no complaints about this polish. It applies beautifully - opaque in 2-3 coats (depending on thickness) and not streaky.

I love that all of the gorgeous shimmer you can see in the bottle translates so well onto the nails themselves. It's like golden fairy dust!

How does this Preamp polish make you feel, deep down in your heart? Let's talk about it.

Also, I've wanted to mention this for the last several Fridays because I feel like it's the (tiniest little) elephant in the room:  I nubbinized the bejesus out of my nails after reading a guide for how to choose the right shaped nail for your nail bed. The guide recommended that I file my nails into an oval shape - not rounded or squared or "squared with round edges."  With this current shape, my nails are super short but at least they're strong and the edges aren't snapping off at unfortunate angles like they were when I tried to rock them longer and square. Some people (and by that I mean "me") just aren't able to keep their nails long. IT'S SCIENCE PEOPLE. PHYSICS, SPECIFICALLY.

Next week will be the last of this Radiant Orchid nail polish series. I've got one more Sally Hansen polish to show you before I'm all orchided-out. Have you had a favorite so far? I'm curious to know!

See the other orchid-inspired polishes I've swatched here, here, and here.

  1. There's nothing more disappointing then shimmer in the bottle that doesn't shimmer on the nails. This, however, does not disappoint! The shimmer is fantastic. And, despite the "nubbiniezed", your nails still look great.

    1. Totally agree about the shimmer! This is one of my favorite polishes in my entire stash I think!

  2. I didn't realize nails were so scientific until this post. Thanks so much for the info and the wit! By the way, I think you should try Molly Coddled by Butter London (or a dupe) for a great radiant orchid polish.

    1. Well I posted a reply to your comment, but it was RIGHT as Gmail/Blogger went down today, so it didn't capture my reply. RATS. Well the gist of my response was.... I needed to figure out the best shape for my nail because what I wassss doing was NOT working! And I just saw that Butter London polish in a blog last night and I completely agree it's a perfect radiant orchid shade!!

  4. also--yes, I'm commenting again because I hadnt gotten all the way through your post before my last comment because that #bitchesbetalkin thing was too good. 1) I cannot keep my nails long either. They don't break but I canNOT stand the clicking on a keyboard (and I'm a writer so there would be lots of clicking). 2) this is my favorite of the orchids you've shared so far!!

  5. How I love your hashtags, gal! Hahaha!! This is probably my favourite of the orchid's you've swatched so far. ORLY is awesome at making colours that EXPLODE INTO THOUSANDS OF SPARKLES when the sun hits it and I think this is one of those. If only it wasn't such an expensive brand…I'd have them all! Haha!

    Happy Family Time!

  7. That color is very cute and springy on you! I think your current nail shape looks great too. Very cute and functional. Having square nails is overrated imo. It looks really unnatural and high maintenance to me.

  8. I love it!! It's such a gorgeous soft orchid and all that glitter?!?! Be still, my nail-polish loving heart.
I don't file my nails and I like my nails reasonably short. I have never understood square nails :S also if I had square nails, I would poke my eye out or something haha!

    1. Jennie had the right idea up there in the comments ^^ it's like an explosion of sparkles!! Regardless of their shape, I do wish I could grow my nails longer without them breaking... but I think maybe my nail beds are just too short to sustain any real length on my nails. My tiny little circus freak hands can't handle long nails I guess ;)

  9. I meant shimmer, not glitter LOL. I was distracted by the coat of Fairy Dust I just applied. ><

    1. Well thank you - I'm beginning to feel less self-conscious about my tiny nails now! Seems to be enough positive feedback to justify keeping them like this :) Thanks for stopping by!
